No More Suicides: Earlier tonight some friends and I were talking about Tyler Clementi. If you aren’t familiar with the story, Tyler was a 18 year old Rutgers student who committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington bridge. This horrific act was done after a same-sex encounter was filmed and broadcasted to the Internet without his permission. This is only the latest in a case of children killing themselves.

Seth Walsh was 13 years old and committed suicide and died Sept 27th after he hung himself from the tree in front of his house. He was constantly bullied for being gay.

Asher Brown was 13 years old, shot himself in the head on Sept 23rd after being harassed for being gay.

Billy Lucas was 15 years old hung himself on Sept 9^th in his home after being harassed for being gay.

Tyler Clementi, Seth Walsh, Asher Brown, Billy Lucas

Remember these names. 

They were children.

They will never know what life had in store for them. 

They lost hope in life because society told them they didn’t belong.

How is this ok?

My heart is broken. What kind of society are we living in where children can no longer have hope in the future? What kind of society tells a kid that it’s better for them to be dead? What kind of society let’s this keep happening?

All the stories above?, nothing is happening. That’s right nothing. The two people who filmed Tyler will be charged for illegal filming that’s it. Nothing about their actions that lead to this young man’s death. The other 3 the schools say no criminal activity has taken place. So how many more lives need to be lost before we put an end to this? We are losing our children… and for what?

But we can do something. If this saddens you then I urge you to stand up. We have to let them know that being gay, lesbian, bisexual, queer, trans, questioning, is ok. That there is support, there is hope and there is love. They have to understand they are not alone and never will be.

Reach out to your local schools, politicians. Urge them that they need to include anit-lgbtq bullying into the curriculum. This isn’t a political or moral issue this is a life issue. Tell them we will not stand for injustice. We do not want any more of our children dead.
